2 New Homestead Exemptions For Georgia Seniors

Georgia voters overwhelmingly passed two statewide referendums providing Homestead Exemptions for Georgians 65 and older. The first referendum stipulates that Georgians 65 and older will not pay state property taxes on their homes. The other referendum provides surviving spouses with continuation of base-year value homestead exemption.  More info>

Georgia Real Estate Property Taxes Favorable to Retires
Georgia has one of the most favorable real estate property tax policies in the country.  The state provides various homestead exemption programs for people beginning at age 62 and benefits significantly increase for disabled veterans and surviving spouses of deceased veterans.   Better yet, the Constitution of Georgia allows counties to enact local homestead exemptions and a number of counties have implemented an exemption that freezes the valuation of property at the base year valuation for as long as the homeowner resides on the property.  More info>
