Amanda Glover, Bainbridge-Decatur County community development director, tells us that Bainbridge, like many other south Georgia towns, is also experiencing what's called the 'halfback' phenonenon--retirees moving inland from Floridaa in search of mild weather, retirement communities, recreation opportunities and a minimal threat of hurricanes. In Bainbridge, there's a sense of optimism and a commitment to growth that's not yet caught on in some of the region's smaller towns.
